Church Street Valentines Fayre Saturday 11 February
Date posted: Monday 2nd January 2017
There are a few theories about the origin of valentines. One of the most popular stories is the one based in the time of the Roman Empire, when there was a cruel emperor called Claudius. He made it illegal for couples to marry because he needed single soldiers to sign up to his army, and he thought that they would make better soldiers if the men were single as they wouldn’t worry about the fate of their wives and children if they were to die in battle. But Christianity also existed at this time and there was a Christian Priest called Valentine who married couples in secret. He was caught and sentenced to death for his disobedience. In prison he befriended his jailer’s blind daughter who the jailer asked the priest to teach. A miracle happened to the girl and whilst having lessons from Valentine, her sight was restored. His death sentence was the 14th of February and he left a message to the girl signed “from your Valentine” After his death Valentine was canonised and became a saint and the day was forever associated with love & friendship, the giving of gifts, cards, letters and flowers.
On the 11th of February, from 12 midday until 6pm Church Street’s cobbles will be packed with stall holders, having made the trip to our romantic riverside setting from far and wide, enticed by the heady mixture of love and romance that is sure to be a major element of what we think is the first Valentine’s Fayre this borough has ever had. There will be a host of stalls selling everything from heat shaped pies, truffles, cakes, fragrances, holistic and aromatherapy products, jewellery, & much more! There may also be a gift from the Saint Valentine of Church Street! But this will be typically a Mystery gift!
Meet some of the people behind the many stalls that will be making this Fayre special.

Zerrin Sutcu “My name is Zerrin, I am working since 25 years as a professional trainer and NLP Master with businesses and individuals. I love my job and enjoy every minute of it. In the past years I seized the opportunity to learn something new and took part in lots of workshops as a participant, but these were mainly new methods, psychology, soft skills development etc. 2 years ago whilst taking part in a training session, I discovered my pleasure in working with art and self-expression, so I took workshops for bracelet making and quilling. These 2 activities are now the part of my life where I can shut down all troubles and concerns of daily life. I love doing small quilling flowers, magnets, pictures as well as bracelets, each time wondering with excitement how it will look at the end. So when loving to do them so much, why not try earning some money with it? This is my story about my first ever stall at Church Street St.Valentine’s market. Lets meet and see together how it works out….:-))”
Louise Calloni : Jeweller
“Do you never know what to get a loved one for Valentine’s Day? Well this is your lucky year there is a whole fair dedicated to helping you find the perfect gift in Church Street on 11th February. What better gift to give than a handcraft piece of jewellery. Bring along your amore then they can choose their very own piece or have a look and decide yourself.
In my spare time I hand make jewellery using semi-precious gems and fresh water pearls, but my favourite and most popular pieces are my Pure Silver leaves. Each one is totally unique and comes from individual leaves. Seeing the excitement and happiness on people’s faces is why I do what I do. To bring a bit of joy to someone whether they are choosing something for themselves or as a gift, I just know they will love it.
I can also take on requests, is there a special leaf you’d like turned into Pure Silver to keep forever, from a bride’s bouquet or from a bush planted in memory of a loved one, get in touch.
I look forward to seeing you at Church Street on 11th February. web site

Keith Matthews : Vinyl seller and DJ, started House of Vinyl simply by selling some of his old record collection to bring in a bit of extra cash. Those records flew out of the door which inspired Keith to buy some more and sell them on. Before long Keith’s talent for spotting a great vinyl record had turned into a fully functioning small business that was paying the mortgage. Keith will be bringing a selection of limited edition must-have boxsets still in their cellophane to some much-loved pre-owned classics and some of House of Vinyl’s own merchandise. House of Vinyl is a local business operating out of Twickenham and we wanted to take part in the Valentines Fayre to connect with all the local vinyl lovers out there.
